Vocational Training

DAPP Mikolongwe Vocational School started its operations in 1997 at Providence Industrial Mission (P.I.M) in Chiradzulu district and later moved to its present campus in 1999. The project is centered on equipping young men and women with technical and vocational skills and knowledge for them to become productive youths, who are able to secure employment or become self-reliant by starting up small-scale businesses, thereby alleviating poverty.

The school is registered and accredited by Technical Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TEVETA). Mikolongwe Vocational School is one of the selected training providers for TEVETA’s Skills Development Initiative (SDI) for the informal sector.

To date, more than 8.500 youth have been trained in both the formal and informal training. The offered vocational skills are those in demand on the job market and which open viable options for the students to run their own small to medium enterprises. They include: beauty and hairdressing; welding and fabrication; brick-laying; tailoring; carpentry and joinery; electrical installation and renewable energy; water, sanitation and hygiene and; plumbing course.

The school will in 2017 have 220 students under the formal training and 400 students enrolled for short courses under the informal training.
