We include cross-cutting issues in our social development programs (advocacy against gender based violence, inclusive education, community development, food production, climate actions and environmental sustainability, HIV and AIDS, disaster risk management and many more) - these issues are key in our development work as they often binds our work together with the aim of improving the lives of the people who are most in need and of sustaining the project activities.
We promote gender equity - we work to combat gender based violence as a cross cutting activity in all our projects
We train female youth in our teacher training and vocational school programs – as the female youth complete their education and become primary school teachers in rural primary schools or business women setting up businesses locally they become role models for the girl children. We train adolescent girls and young women in issues affecting their health and education, giving them the knowledge and skills to defend themselves against any form for abuse, encouraging them to speak up and seek support when needed. We include the boys and men in the fight for gender rights as they need to be part of the fight.
We promote equal access to an inclusive and quality education for all children, including those with disabilities and other vulnerable groups who drop -out due to poverty, unfriendly learning environments, unintended pregnancies, stigma, discrimination, poor sanitation and lack of parental guidance due to illiteracy and more.
We work shoulder to shoulder with the people in the rural communities – with the people themselves leading the actions for their own development - creating a better future for the families and their children.
Our activities include early child hood development by establishment of local preschools, information and actions for fighting common diseases, improving health and hygiene, water and sanitation, trainings in village savings & loan schemes, establishment of income generating activities, establishing vegetable gardens – all with will the aim that the families will have an improved life and be able to care for themselves and the future of the children.
Together with the communities we promote actions to protect the environment, build resilience and adaptation to climate change.
We establish tree nurseries, we plant trees together with the children, youth and families in our projects and schools. We promote the use of firewood saving stoves, train farmers in adaptation farming and build their resilience towards climate change. We share information and knowledge about global warming, climate change and how to deal with it and we promote protection of our environment. When disaster happens we take action to support the affected communities.
We promote food production at household level, in the community, at the school and in our agricultural projects. People on long term medical treatment such as people with TB and people living with HIV treatment need nutritious food – hence vegetable gardens at household level areis essential for them.
Children need food at school for their brain development, general healthy growth and for them to concentrate on learning – hence school gardens and provision of meals are important. We train our farmers in environmentally friendly farming methods and sustainable food production for their families with a surplus for sale..
